Airtel hopes to get Rs 300 from and may shortly raise telecom rates

In order to maintain healthy valuations and improve returns on investments, Sunil Bharti Mittal, who was knighted by British King Charles III on Thursday, said that Airtel would lead the charge in hiking telecom rates if the market signals correctly.

“We have always said we need to go to Rs 300 ARPU (average revenue per user) from Rs 200 now,” said the founder and chairman of Airtel.

“Healthy values are necessary. In an interview with NDTV Profit, Mittal said that the price must be appropriate in order to provide benefits to the shareholders and a respectable return on capital. “That was terribly brief.”

In the third quarter, the company’s ARPU increased 2.5% sequentially to Rs 208, with a 7.4 million increase in 4G customers.

According to Mittal, Airtel has invested over Rs 40,000 crore on 5G spectrum and an equivalent amount in network rollout. However, more work has to be done.

He said that OneWeb, a satellite internet provider supported by Bharti Airtel, aims to service rural areas at prices comparable to landline telecom.

“We have prepared our ground station in Mehsana, Gujarat, and are awaiting the satcom spectrum to be allocated so that services can be initiated.”

The Leo satellite constellation has reduced prices while assisting in the provision of worldwide coverage.

According to Mittal, the honorary knighthood “recognises India’s rise in the world.”

He claims that Indian companies are well-regarded as excellent corporate citizens in the UK, making it an obvious decision for them to establish operations there.

Indian firms have long found the UK to be a logical option. It makes sense that we searched for business prospects in the UK.

The talks between India and the UK on a free trade agreement (FTA) have advanced significantly.

“I will make an effort to guarantee that the Free Trade Agreement benefits both nations equally,” he said.
