Rain lashing Thiruvananthapuram, Washout Threatens Over Warm-up Fixture in IND vs NED

Rain is threatening to cancel the match between India and the Netherlands at the Greenfield Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram, posing a serious concern that the Indian cricket squad may not get to play even one warm-up match before the ICC ODI World Cup 2023.<img decoding=”async” class=”alignnone wp-image-216413″ src=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/theindiaprint.com-the-deadline-for-nielit-applications-for-dlc-ccc-and-other-computer-courses-has-be.jpg” alt=”theindiaprint.com the deadline for nielit applications for dlc ccc and other computer courses has be” width=”1105″ height=”735″ srcset=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/theindiaprint.com-the-deadline-for-nielit-applications-for-dlc-ccc-and-other-computer-courses-has-be.jpg 275w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/theindiaprint.com-the-deadline-for-nielit-applications-for-dlc-ccc-and-other-computer-courses-has-be-150×100.jpg 150w” sizes=”(max-width: 1105px) 100vw, 1105px” title=”Rain lashing Thiruvananthapuram, Washout Threatens Over Warm-up Fixture in IND vs NED 3″>

A earlier warm-up game between India and England that was scheduled to take place at Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati was also postponed. Rain played spoilsport when India won the toss and skipper Rohit Sharma elected to bat first. However, not a single ball could be bowled.

On Tuesday, October 3, if the weather in Thiruvananthapuram deteriorated, similar scenarios may occur. Rain drenched the city in the early morning hours, making it impossible for both teams to play a complete game of fifty overs unless the weather substantially improves.

A small number of people used X to post updates on the rain that was pouring down in the city. Weather.com predicted thunderstorms throughout the day, so there is a very real possibility that rain may once again ruin the day.

If the game between India and the Netherlands is postponed, the Indian squad will not have used their starting XI in any of the games coming up to the fifty-over extravaganza on October 8 when they face Australia.

For the first two ODIs of the recently finished series against Australia, players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were rested, but the star combination returned for the decisive match in Rajkot without Hardik Pandya.

As rain continued to ruin games leading up to the World Cup, three fixtures during the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 warm-up matches had to be abandoned due to the weather, while two matches were settled on DLS.
