An Indian athlete named Krishna Poonia takes part in the women's discus throw competition. A discus thrower who has won gold internationally is Krishna Poonia. She became the first woman to win gold in any women's track and field event at a Common Wealth games in 2010 at the Delhi Commonwealth Games by winning the gold medal with a throw of 61.5 metres.
The Olympic medallist, who now lives in Jaipur, was born on May 5, 1977, in Agroha, Haryana. Poonia and her husband, the former athlete Virender Singh Poonia, both work for the Indian Railways. While pursuing her sociology degree at the Kanodia Girls College in Jaipur, she began her sports career in 2006 in the Asian Games in Doha under the guidance of her husband.

She created history by being the first woman from her nation to win a medal at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi.
